«Lo que hoy es moderno mañana es clásico».
Una de las ideas fundamentales que hay detrás del trabajo de un buen fotógrafo es capturar instantáneas cuyo conjunto final defina un momento completo, imágenes conectadas cuya dirección venga dada por la intención del autor o, lo que es lo mismo, saber captar el aquí y el ahora de cada segundo.

La capacidad de comprender el signo de los tiempos -un término muy utilizado en moda-, es una de las cualidades mas apreciadas en una obra fotográfica. Saber sumergirse en tendencias y etiquetas, comprender la iconografía de cada colectivo e inspirarse en toda esa oleada de novedades hoy modernas y mañana clásicas, para acabar con un resultado tan intemporal y sincero como una captura de imagen del momento presente.
Cambian las etiquetas; podemos hablar de street art, de las diferentes facetas del hip hop, de tattoo y de múltiples tendencias aplicadas a la moda y de infinitas referencias mas pero, al final, lo que queda para siempre reflejado en las fotografías es algo que queda muy por encima de tendencias o modas: Hablamos de un retrato de las personas, de su arte y su cultura. Su actitud, su vida, su aspecto, su música… Conseguir que el retrato sea memorable es la huella de un buen fotógrafo, y ése es el tipo de huella que Selector Marx imprime en sus trabajos.
Selector Marx participa en el proyecto «Antes de olvidar» creado por Nobulo y en colaboración con el Instituto Cervantes de Rabat, que se llevará a cabo durante este año 2014.

One of the fundamental ideas behind the work of a good photographer is to capture snapshots whose final set defines a full moment, images linked only by the author’s intention or, in more simple words, the ability to capture the here and now every time.

The ability to understand the sign of the times -a term widely used in fashion- is one of the most appreciated qualities in a photographic work. To develop a discourse into trends and labels, understand the iconography of each community, inspired by all this modern wave of today´s novelties and tomorrow´s classics, to end in a timeless and sincere result as a snapshot of the present moment.
The labels changes; we can talk about street art, the different ways of hip hop culture, tattoo and multiple trends applied to fashion and endless references but, in the end, what remains forever reflected in photographs is something that is well above trends: we speak about a portrait of the people, their art and culture. His attitude, his life, his looks, his music … Getting memorable portrait is the mark of a good photographer, and that’s the kind of mark that Selector Marx prints in his work.
